Course Overview:

This course explores the quantitative relationship between physical light stimuli and the sensory experiences they evoke, bridging the gap between physics and perception. You will study classical threshold theories and Signal Detection Theory to understand how the human eye detects, discriminates, and scales visual information. By analyzing the physiological limits of the visual system, students learn to model how we perceive everything from basic brightness to complex spatial patterns.
