Vision Science Academy Announces the Establishment of World Vision Science Day
London, UK – February 3, 2026 – Vision Science Academy has officially announced the establishment of World Vision Science Day (WVSD), a new global observance dedicated to advancing vision sciences as an integrated, multidisciplinary field. World Vision Science Day will be observed annually on 4 February, beginning in 2026.
World Vision Science Day aims to highlight the collective contributions of optometry, ophthalmology, neuroscience, psychology, and emerging visual technologies in safeguarding, enhancing, and restoring human vision across the lifespan. The initiative seeks to foster global collaboration, promote research excellence, and accelerate the translation of scientific discovery into meaningful clinical and societal impact.
“Vision sciences today extend far beyond the eye,” said Dr. Abhishek Mandal, Founder of Vision Science Academy. “They integrate the brain, intelligent systems, and technology. World Vision Science Day provides a global platform to recognise this evolution and to advance vision sciences as a unified discipline.”
The inaugural year of World Vision Science Day will feature a series of scholarly publications, digital events, research showcases, and awareness initiatives. An open call will also be launched to encourage institutions, researchers, clinicians, students, and innovators worldwide to participate in future editions of the observance.
On this occasion, Kristi Sharma, the Global Coordinator, shares her thoughts, “By establishing World Vision Science Day, we, at Vision Science Academy, aim to strengthen interdisciplinary dialogue, encourage innovation, and build a shared global identity for vision sciences.”
Institutions, professionals, researchers, and students across the world are invited to join the World Vision Science Day initiative and contribute to shaping its global impact.
