Figure: Fire through Water: When Light Loses its Clarity

Image Summary

This is a slit-lamp retro-illumination photograph of the human eye, where light from the fundus reflects backward to reveal posterior lens opacities, a Retro (Posterior) Cataract. The granular pattern is not texture or bubbles, but disrupted lens fibers scattering light, breaking the normally smooth red reflex.

What appears artistic is actually optical degradation at the microscopic level, explaining why patients experience glare, halos, and reduced contrast long before vision loss is obvious on a chart.
