Winners:

1st Prize: Sayak Banerjee
Title Summary
The moon’s surface or a cornea’s story Captured with a Topcon SL D701 using the Sclerotic Scatter technique, this image reveals the essence of a keratoconic eye with hydrops. The light scatters across the cornea like the rugged surface of the Moon, while the ethereal halo in the background echoes Saturn’s majestic rings, revealing beauty even in distortion.

2nd Prize: Krishna Shah
Title Summary
Behind the veil, a glimpse of elegance and grace — where every dimple tells a story of timeless beauty Dimple veiling is a phenomenon that occurs on the cornea, where small indentations or “dimples” appear on the eye’s surface. This is often caused by rigid contact lenses that do not fit perfectly against the cornea. These dimples create a veiling or hazy effect, causing blurry vision or slight distortion. The gaps between the lens and the cornea diffuse light, leading to this visual disturbance. Dimple veiling can be observed during a slit-lamp examination by an eye care professional and may indicate an imperfect lens fit or a change in the shape of the cornea.

3rd Prize: Wafa Fatima
Title Summary
Cataract with Pterygium: A Dual Ocular Pathology This image depicts an eye affected by both cataract and Pterygium. The cloudy lens indicates cataract formation, leading to progressive vision loss. Additionally, a fleshy, wedge-shaped Pterygium extends from the conjunctiva onto the cornea, which may cause irritation, astigmatism, or visual obstruction. Both conditions are commonly associated with aging, UV exposure, and environmental factors.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Vision Science Academy extends its heartfelt congratulations to the winners and appreciates all participants for their outstanding submissions. Your dedication to ocular photography and vision sciences is truly commendable.
