As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting public awareness and eye health education, Vision Science Academy observed Dry Eye Awareness Month throughout July 2026 through a series of educational digital outreach initiatives.
The Dry Eye Awareness Month campaign focused on increasing public understanding of dry eye disease, one of the most common ocular surface disorders affecting millions of people worldwide. Educational content shared through Vision Science Academy’s social media platforms and monthly newsletter highlighted the common symptoms, risk factors, preventive measures, and the importance of seeking professional eye care for persistent dry eye symptoms.
As part of this initiative, our team member, Dannon Boluwatife Rebecca developed an educational awareness reel aimed at informing the public about dry eye disease, its impact on everyday life, and practical measures individuals can take to reduce symptoms and maintain healthy eyes.
Tips to Help Prevent and Manage Dry Eye
Maintaining healthy eyes involves adopting simple daily habits that support the natural tear film and reduce eye strain. Vision Science Academy recommends the following:
- Blink regularly, particularly when using computers, smartphones, or other digital devices for extended periods.
- Follow the 20-20-20 rule by looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes of screen use.
- Stay well hydrated by drinking adequate amounts of water throughout the day to support healthy tear production.
- Take regular breaks from prolonged screen time to minimise digital eye strain.
- Avoid direct airflow from air conditioners, fans, or heaters, which can accelerate tear evaporation.
- Maintain a balanced diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients that support ocular surface health.
- Seek professional eye care if symptoms such as burning, irritation, redness, or blurred vision persist.
Through these awareness activities, Vision Science Academy continued its mission of promoting evidence-based education, public engagement, and preventive eye care while encouraging healthier visual habits across the global community.
