As part of its commitment to promoting public awareness and visual health education, Vision Science Academy observed Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) Awareness Month and Sports Eye Safety Month through a series of digital outreach initiatives and learning opportunities conducted throughout September 2026.

The Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) Awareness Month campaign

Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is a condition caused by damage to the brain’s visual processing centres, resulting in vision impairment despite healthy eyes. It is a leading cause of vision problems in children. VSA’s campaign for CVI Awareness Month aimed to spread knowledge about the condition’s symptoms, early detection, and intervention strategies.

The CVI Awareness Month campaign focused on increasing public and professional understanding of Cerebral Visual Impairment as a brain-based, rather than eye-based, cause of visual impairment in children. Educational posts and awareness reels shared across VSA’s social media platforms highlighted the neurological origins of CVI, its common signs, and the importance of early identification and support for affected children and their families. As part of the initiative, a dedicated lecture was hosted on the Vision Science Talks – Exploring Neuroscience and Technology, allowing learners and professionals to engage directly with an expert perspective on CVI’s clinical presentation and management.

Sports Eye Safety Awareness Month
