GLOBAL MYOPIA ECOSYSTEM
Vision Science Academy and NTCOA launch MYOPIA X, a four-session global course series on myopia care
A CPE-accredited webinar programme tracing the full continuum of myopia — prevention, detection, management and preservation — runs live from November 2026 to February 2027 under the Global Myopia Ecosystem banner.
LONDON, 15 October 2026 — Vision Science Academy, in collaboration with the New Taipei City Optometrists Association (NTCOA), today announced MYOPIA X, a structured professional education programme in myopia care, convened under the Global Myopia Ecosystem.
Myopia — short-sightedness — is projected to affect close to half the world’s population by 2050, up from under a quarter in the year 2000.
MYOPIA X was built in direct response to that trajectory: rather than a single lecture or an isolated update, it is a connected, four-part curriculum that follows the patient journey from the earliest signs of risk through to a lifetime of preserved vision.
Each of the four live sessions runs on a Sunday, from 12:00 to 16:00 Taiwan Time, and is built from four one-hour lectures delivered by senior, practising voices in myopia care. Sessions are CPE-accredited, meaning the hours practitioners spend in the room count directly toward their professional development requirements.
“MYOPIA X was designed to be a continuum, not a calendar of talks. By the time a practitioner has sat through all four sessions, they have walked the entire arc of myopia care — from spotting the earliest risk in a child to managing the most complex cases decades later.”
DR. ABHISHEK MANDAL, FOUNDER & CEO, VISION SCIENCE ACADEMY
The series opens with Prevention on 29 November 2026, examining risk identification, outdoor light exposure and the everyday habits that shape a child’s visual development. Detection follows on 27 December, covering comprehensive assessment and
axial length monitoring. Management, on 24 January 2027, turns to optical and pharmacological intervention, and the series closes with Preservation on 28 February 2027, addressing high myopia, complex cases and the long-term outlook for eye health.
“Myopia management should not begin only after progression becomes evident, nor should success be defined by refractive change alone. I believe our responsibility is to identify risk earlier, make better-informed clinical decisions, and preserve visual health across the lifespan. Through MYOPIA X, NTCOA is pleased to collaborate with Vision Science Academy, with our advisor, Dr. Alex Ong, contributing to the collaborative planning of the programme. Together, we aim to build a structured pathway from prevention and detection to personalised management and long-term vision preservation, translating evolving evidence into better decisions and better care.”
RICHIE HUANG, PRESIDENT, NEW TAIPEI CITY OPTOMETRISTS ASSOCIATION (NTCOA)
MYOPIA X sits within the Global Myopia Ecosystem. Registration enquiries are open now, with seats limited.
The trend MYOPIA X is built to address
Global myopia prevalence has more than doubled since 2000 and is projected to approach half the world’s population by 2050.
MYOPIA X delivers 16 cumulative hours of live, CPE-accredited instruction across its four Sunday sessions.
NORMAL EYE
MYOPIC EYE
In a myopic eye, the eyeball is axially elongated, so distant light converges before reaching the retina — producing blurred distance vision. MYOPIA X’s Detection and Management sessions address exactly this mechanism.
